‘Fishing with the Vets’
TOURNAMENT RULES
Thank you for participating in this event. Below are the rules for the Blue Ridge Invitational fly-fishing tournament being held on Sunday, Oct 11, 2009. These rules are designed to promote fun, reward good fishing, and good teamwork and hopefully give everyone a chance to be competitive.
1. Each team will consist of two anglers, either pro/vet or two non-vets. Both anglers may fish simultaneously.
2. All fish must be netted with rubber nets, handled with care, revived if necessary and released. Good catch and release techniques are essential to showing our hosts how much we appreciate access to the resource.
3. Fly fishing only. You may fish only single point barbless fly. Tippet size must be 4x or smaller. You can use drop flies.
4. Each angler, except vets is expected to bring his own gear but teammates can share any equipment.
5. The use of fly floatant, leader weight, leaders or other accessories will be at the discretion of the angler. Only floating fly lines are permitted. Fish attractants of any type cannot be used. Traditional strike indicators are allowed.
6. You may only fish when you and your fly are on your assigned beat.
7. Each angler scores no more than three trout per session. Each angle must measure and score the first fish they catch. Each angler selects the two additional fish to measure and score; each angler can measure no more than two fish. When your team has scored six fish in a session, the competition is concluded but you may fish for fun until the end of the session.
8. A trout will be scored by its length, tail folded, rounded up to the next centimeter. Monitors measure the fish. The total length of the fish caught by each team will determine the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners. Only trout, fairly hooked, will be scored. A fish fairly hooked and foul hooked by the dropper does NOT score.
9. Teammates may net fish for their partner.
10. Each beat will be assigned a trout monitor who sees that each selected fish is measured and scored. Stream Monitors will assist vets if needed. The monitor will be the official timekeeper. If a fish is hooked and being played when time for a session expires it may be landed and scored.
11. A monitor may waive any rule in the interest of safety.
